[edit] Re:Your inquiry over "Windward Studios'" deletion
Hi, regarding your wondering why Windward Studios was deleted, I'll direct you to my reply to DonnieF, HERE. The whole deletion of articles from wikipedia is not black and white... every article is written differently, about different subjects etc. etc.. Obviously, I can't look at nearly 2million articles as there are in the English Wikipedia, and only pick up ones which happen to be on the recent changes page or New Pages page when I take a gander. What set me off about Windward Studios was the lack of citation from any news sites etc. The article was also abviously written by one of the development team, which creates a Conflict of Interest. As far as I could see, Windward Studios wasn't a recognised national company per WP:CORP, because the article didn't tell me that; which was why I tagged it. It also seems that the admin who deleted it agreed with me; or it wouldn't have been deleted. Why haven't the other articles been deleted? I don't know, I haven't looked at them. [edit] Can you re-look at it please?
To respond to a couple of your points:
1. The article was written by an ex-tech support person at the company. He left Windward about a year ago. So he was connected but is no more and has not been for some time.
2. For national media - we have been mentioned but it's been in print (Business Week this month), video (NBC News - http://video.msn.com/v/us/msnbc.htm?g=58641E0B-A833-4C29-BD2B-24C171B44856&f=00&fg=copy), and trade publications like eWeek (http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1822485,00.asp).
3. For national presense - the Enemy Nations game sold over 100,000 worldwide (and has numerous mentions in game magazines worldwide). The Page 2 Stage program sold over 10,000 worldwide and is well know in the screenwriting community worldwide. The Windward Reports program has been sold worldwide and has thousands of users in a good chunk of the fortune 100.
If you need changes, let Don know. He's a computer science major, not a wikipedia expert. But with some guidance I know he can give you what you need. And I think the company clearly meets the CORP criteria.
- Cheers for pointing me here on my user page. Ok, well basically, the reason that your article was first deleted was that it didn't state that the studio was notable, and cite the facts in the article from reliable third-party sources, like news articles. If you think that you can write an article which asserts its notability, maybe starting "Windward Studios is the studio behind the 100k selling Enemy Nations..." or something, and cite this fact with a link to a news article or something like that, then this should satisfy the assertion of notability and stop it being speedy deleted. There may still be a question about how notable the article is, however, as googling "Windward Studios" only gets 287000 hits... and not many from news articles... but all this means is thta someone may nominate the article for deletion the normal way, which will allow people to argue as to why the article should be kept or deleted. If you think you can do as I've stated above, the article should have a good chance of surviving. Toon 20:39, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Speedy deletion of Online debate
A tag has been placed on Online debate requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later." You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. [edit] February 2008
You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved, as you did at Online debate. This applies to articles about you, your achievements, your band, your business, your publications, your website, your relatives, and any other possible conflict of interest.
Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. If you create such an article, it might be listed on articles for deletion. Deletion is not certain, but many feel strongly that you should not start articles about yourself. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability. All edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability.
If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy that Wikipedia is not a personal webspace provider and would thus qualify for speedy deletion. If your achievements, etc., are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. (See Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles.) Thank you. faithless (speak) 08:40, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
