[edit] Super Mario RPG lists

Currently, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars has two lists pertaining to it (List of characters in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, and List of locations in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars). User:TTN decided it would be best to merge the lists into the main article and split Smithy Gang into those articles. I recently merged Smithy Gang into the list of chatacters by removing the non-notable characters, and I have asserted that a cameo section in the list of characters is valid, per Wikipedia:Trivia sections and Wikipedia:Handling trivia that uses Alex Trebek#Cameos as a good example. I have suggested that we rename the articles per Wikipedia:Requested moves#Requesting potentially controversial moves to something along the lines of Characters of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars and World of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars or Mushroom Kingdom (Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars) just like Characters of Final Fantasy VIII and World of Final Fantasy VI or Gaia (Final Fantasy VII). I believe if these articles are to evolve beyond a non-notable list, they should be renamed. For example, List of Final Fantasy VII locations was merged into Gaia (Final Fantasy VII), because a World article is notable, but a simple list of locations is not. That is why there are other secions of the article to make it a World article. It simply has not been renamed yet.

TTN believes the citations in the development and reception sections of the list of locations, books and magazines, are trivial sources. When I added that the 3D perspective of the game is reminicent of Equinox to the main article, TTN removed it since my souce was "the opinions of the Nintendo Power player's guide writers". Although it was actually Nintendo Power magazine, I do believe a magazine is a reliable source, and I gave a page from Next Generation Magazine which also said the same thing. In addition, I was surprized that TTN said that it was from the players guide, since he claims to own the players guide for the game. He has not verified this, since I asked him for citations in May, "Could you look in the back of the Player's Guide and tell me what “types” of … Magic? I forgot what they call it in the game … well, anyways, what types of Special Attack or whatever it is (actually, could you find out what it's called?) there are? I remember some vaguely when I owned the guide like “Fire”, “Jump”, “Electricity?”, etc. Could you provide a citation, like the page number with a quote in context?" TTN replied that he was going to "get to it" (User talk:TTN/Archive 5#List of locations in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars). TTN claims the player's guide is "at the bottom of a box that's behind at least five others in a cramped space". Seeing that TTN did not recognize that the page was not from the player's guide when I provided a scan of the page in question from Nintendo Power shocked me. However, I have continued to assume good faith by not questioning TTN's honesty.

Per Wikipedia:Consensus#Consensus can change, I have offered five different reasonable, temporary compromises that might integrate my idea with TTN's.

  1. Go over the list of characters so we can delete non–notable characters
  2. Rename the articles by following the steps at Wikipedia:Requested moves#Requesting potentially controversial moves.
  3. Cut down the geography section list of locations by cutting it into the regional maps the adventures use when traveling from one to another. I can get pictures and write the fair use rationals, and someone can cut down the text that has no citation and does not allude to other media.
  4. Write the concept and creation and reception sections for the list of characters
  5. Write the concept and creation section for the main article

TTN rejected my compromise because it still keeps the articles. I agreed I would consider a redirect, but Wikipedia:Article size does not allow that, since the list of locations is currently 82 KB long. Instead, I agreed to help cut down the geography section that is the bulk of the article, but TTN rejected that as well because TTN states, "I am not interested in working on the article in regards to improving it." and "get past this "having sources automatically means that this information is good" mentality." TTN states, "I don't think they have or will ever assert notability." I have replied with, "Wikipedia is not a crystal ball, so if you don't think the articles will ever assert notability, we cannot yet know this, per Wikipedia:Arguments to avoid in deletion discussions#I don't like it.

Hi. I found your name mostly at random but see that you've done a lot of vandal fighting, etc. You've also voted in a lot of RFAs. Have you considered adminship yourself? —Wknight94 (talk) 17:26, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Let me know if there's anything you'd like me to add to the nomination. What I wrote is simply from what I could derive from your contributions. With 14,000+ edits, I obviously couldn't see everything!  :) Go ahead and answer the questions in your RFA. When we're both happy with everything, I can add it to the WP:RFA page itself to let the fun begin. [edit] Redirect of Hermosa montessori

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Hermosa montessori, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Hermosa montessori is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Hermosa montessori, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. [edit] you deleted SikhiWiki - Why?

This was an article very similar to WikiChristian which is a wiki on Christianity - Isn't this discrimination! Sikhism is an important world religion which I am sure you are not aware of - SikhiWiki is a non profit organization just like Wikipedia and a free Sikh encyclopaedia. Hari Singh 18:38, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

If the article was not written in the correct neutral language, the right action would have been to ask for it to be improved, not to ask for deletion - To be accurate in ones action is a virtue! If you had cared to read the article and check the link, you would have discovered that the article was definitely not blatant advertising as you have asserted. Please think before you jump!
Did you check its notability and found it lacking? If you did, you never mentioned this before tagging it for deletion. The SikhiWiki site is referenced by many renowned organisation including the BBC, education institutes, Sikhi organisations, etc.
Also, having deleted the article does not now allow me to discuss its content as it has not been retained. Have a nice day. Kind regards, Hari Singh 01:41, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] David Ritch

Hi. I would like to know why you have removed the CSD-G7 request for speedy deletion per author on the David Ritch article. I am the original author of the article and all of the material in the article has come from me. The article lists no sources and never has; any edits from others you have seen have been them to make the article more encyclopedic using the information in the article. The result is an embarassment to Wikipedia. While the page's history may not reflect that, the substantive truth is that the entire content of the article has been supplied by me. It is difficult to source and by the very nature of the subject (a public figure in a small island country in the Caribbean,) an attempt to demonstrate notability would make the article sound POV. This is why the article has already been through the regular AfD process once, where I strongly defended against its deletion. What is left of the article, I feel, as the original author, no longer demonstrates why it should be on Wikipedia.

I should note that I am the son of the article's subject. He is a successful, practicing attorney, and when one searches for him (as a prospective client will do) the first result from Yahoo or Google is Wikipedia. This sends the wrong message to a potential client particularly with the article in its current form. Any attempt by me to improve the article would likely be resisted with allegations of vanity/conflict of interest. These issues reflect why, as yet, the article is still completely unsourced, un wikified, and has been tagged for cleanup for months. Nobody knows what to do with it. As I say, I am the author for all substantive purposes, and I am trying to remove the article without going through a second round of AfD which would forever become a part of the Internet. I can understand why you are reluctant to grant this request but I would ask you to ignore all rules and remove the article. If you do not wish to do this, please respond to this message in kind. Travisritch 21:48, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] continued

Well, if you are willing to help me re-write the article, that would certainly solve the problem. Most of the information will come from our three newspapers, and their archives are a bit difficult to search through, so you will need my help. It could be an excellent article as long as I have some help from more experienced editors. I have been hanging around here for years causing trouble but I have never meant any harm and just never learned all the rules and policies of Wikipedia; inparticular they have become much more complex now and I am hopelessly lost. Somebody also pointed out in the discussion part that the biography is currently orphaned - that is easily fixable. I agree with your rationale for not deleting the article on second thought. I notice you are in Blackpool - I am in London. So perhaps we can say we will come on at a certain time tomorrow to work on this as we are both in the same time zone. Travisritch 23:02, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Thank you so much for your help. Now that it is correct in format and NPOV, I can expand it a little bit. To demonstrate notability I will have to include some notion of how he is seen to protect Caymanian interest and be a traditional guardian against unregulated immigration policies but I have references for those. When I am finished I will let you know so you can check it all over. Many thanks again. Travisritch 13:32, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

A couple of things immediately come to mind. What can we do about all the redlinks? Secondly, he is one of three leading real estate attorneys on the island according to a UK legal magazine. Can that be included? Travisritch 13:43, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Requests help with AfD Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Racial policy of John Howard

Hi Davewild.

Sorry to use your valuable time. I moved an article proposed for deletion to a new title: One Australia policy. I used the Wikipedia policy listed here: Wikipedia:Guide_to_deletion#You_may_edit_the_article_during_the_discussion The policy states: Moving the article while it is being discussed can produce confusion. If you do this, please note it on the AfD page, preferably both at the top of the discussion (for new participants) and as a new comment at the bottom (for the benefit of the closing admin).

I followed the above procedures to the letter, adding notices at the top and bottom of the AfD page, notifying readers of the move. I think it makes sense to all. The title move was essential because of a rework of the article content to a smaller subset of a previously larger page.

Since the move, another editor has posted some counter notices on the page, and some uncivil remarks. I request an Admin to advise. Thanks again, Lester 02:21, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Hello there, I'm trying to help a new editor write an article on this subject that won't get deleted: he's posted it three times now and I can quite see why it was tagged for speedy deletion. On the other hand, he's not a vandal and I'd like to encourage him. Could you possibly post the text of his original article, which you deleted on 14 November, to his talk page? However, a very short article may be a valid stub if it has context, in which case it is not eligible for deletion under this criterion."? There's nothing on the page that has any source for it whatsoever, not for the director or even the year it will supposedly be released. [edit] Three Rivers Council election, 2006

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Three Rivers Council election, 2006, and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: Three Rivers Council election, 2004. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 11:55, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Decision to delete

I am contacting you to inquire about your decision to delete the Highland Capital Partners Wikipedia article. I have read through the deletion discussion and can see your point of view based on the feedback provided. If I felt that the comments provided accurately represented Highland, I would have tended to agree with you. However, in this case I think some additional information may justify another look at Highland’s Wikipedia entry, reconsideration of deletion, and potentially to reinstate it.

Two particular comments (one provided by User: scope-creep, “Very similar to many other hedge fund companies…” and User: montco, “But they are not an active manager of firms as is Kohlberg Kravis Roberts or Cerberus Capital Management.”) shows a clear lack of understanding of the difference between venture capital (Highland) and private equity (KKR). This uncertainty may have contributed to the thinking of Highland Capital Partners as “passive investor”. In fact, I may even consider that they may have us confused with another Highland, such as Highland Capital Management.

Another comment speaks to Google news hits. There too I would agree, except that I do not think the news hits that a search turns up do a quality job of representing the kind of notable press we regularly receive. For instance, a search today did not offer either of these recent stories: CNBC Closing Bell or BusinessWeek, where hcp.com is listed as one of the top 10 website to help create a winning business plan. In addition to the ranks we are offered by Google, our website hcp.com has been ranked one of the top 10 trafficked website of 700 venture capital firms in the US, by Alexa and Compete standards.

Lastly, my greatest level of confusion – concern even – is why we were singled out when there is an entire List of venture capital firms. Several of our peers have maintained their pages with similar information to what we had removed.

Would you please take a look at Highland Capital Partners and give me your thoughts? Alihoward (talk) 16:16, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Heads up

FYI. The same set of IPs who are trying to delete the Sharon Foley article are also the ones trying to delete the Aoife Hoey (bobsleigh) article and tried to do again to the Siobhán Hoey article earlier this month. All of the WHOIS tracings link up to several sites in Dublin, Ireland. I have asked for WP:AN/I, gone through Administrator vandalism issues, and gone through Wikiquette alerts with these users on this right now. It makes me wonder if this user (or users) has a vendetta against these three. The only link between them is that they are all female Irish triple jumpers. The question is what other articles have they affected? Chris (talk) 15:11, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for your help

Thanks for your help on saving the Aoife Hoey article (formerly Aoife Hoey (bobsleigh)) from deletion. I greatly appreciate it. Chris (talk) 15:48, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
