[edit] Welcome

Hello Daverocks,

Seeing as though you've been a member for around a month now, this welcome is a little late. But, as they say, better late than never... Welcome and enjoy Wikipedia! Your edits are much appreciated.

Be sure to check out Australian resources, like The Australia Wikiportal, Australian Wikipedians' Notice Board, Australian Collaboration of the Fortnight, New Australian Articles and Australian stub articles. Also, you might like to consider participating in WikiProject Sydney - help is always needed!

For Wikipedia-wide involvement, visit the Communtiy Portal and the Village Pump.

If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the Village Pump or ask me on my Talk page.

Again, welcome. Cyberjunkie TALK 1 July 2005 11:06 (UTC)

Thank you very much for the welcome. Only recently did I happen to stumble upon the Community projects and the List of Australian Wikipedians. I would have added myself earlier if I had known. But thank you again for the welcome. I didn't think anyone would have taken time to write a welcome for me, so this is very much appreciated. -- Daverocks 2 July 2005 06:05 (UTC)

[edit] Omniscient

Hello there. Just wanted to say thanks for correcting the omnipotent/omniscient thing on the creationism page. You're right of course ;) Aaarrrggh 12:00, 11 August 2005 (UTC)

No problem. I was just looking at RC, saw your edit, and noticed the "omnipotent" error in that line. I couldn't leave it uncorrected ;) -- Daverocks 12:04, 11 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Tenth grade

I assume that the terms are synonymous, I originally just had Year 10, but someone added the link to Tenth grade, and I didn't see any problems with it being there. Year 10 is what we call it in Australia. --Fir0002 07:00, August 14, 2005 (UTC)

Oh right! thanks! --Fir0002 11:48, August 17, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Target

You certainly seem to be a target for vandalism! If you ever need assistance, say, in blocking a vandal, I'd be glad to help. Happy editing, ;-)--Cyberjunkie | Talk 11:02, 29 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] I've Had to Sit Down and Talk With a Little Someone.....

Sorry Dave for having to have a part in a vandalism of your page. A-not-so sweet 9 year old was visiting and couldn't help herself and play on big cousin's computer.....arrgghhh.....she seemed to have some a hoot of a time and went through some of my bookmarks and came to a Wiki Page I'm working on and figured out the wonder of Wikipedia....I had to sit down and have a little chat with her and her mother how it's not exactly peachy keen to mess with others personal belongings or bookmarks in this case....I apologize to add another number to your vandal count seeing as some other no-so-sweet people have given you enough of re-edits and pointless drivel to erase.

October 29, 2005

No problem. As long as she doesn't do it again :) -- Daverocks 05:22, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Firefox extension

Would you happen to know how to make a firefox extension using Javascript? It would be very simple and used to fight vandalism. The basic idea is to feed RC diff's into firefox, and let it determine which pages contain text (such as an obscenity) listed in a file. For pages that don't contain anything on this list, the tab is closed. The others remain open and ready to be examined. If you can't figure out how to hookup the IRC RC output into firefox, then it could be used with WP:CDVF to open new tabs in firefox to be checked. I found a guide to making extensions, but it says you need to know Javascript. Thanks. — BRIAN0918 • 2005-10-30 03:48

How about using the content from Special:Export. — BRIAN0918 • 2005-10-30 05:08

Lupin also has a hunch about getting it to work. See his talk page. — BRIAN0918 • 2005-10-30 05:11

[edit] On Narcissism

Hey, it's no problem! When I first looked at it, I thought it smelled like a hoax too (albeit sort of clever -- and narcissistic ;) ). At any rate, no harm done, thanks for the message though. · Katefan0(scribble) 15:57, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

Hi, the above has been speedy deleted. Thanks for the headsup. Also, pl. consider informing the creators of such articles about the inapropriateness of such articles. You may also want to welcome them using one of the standard templates such as Template:welcome afte subst-ing it. btw, you look like admin material. --Gurubrahma 13:08, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] de-stubify Nut (instrumental)?

Added some; the article may never be much bigger... whaddaya think? Just plain Bill 19:18, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

My unerringly accurate crystal ball says this article may grow to twice its present size ;-) but I will be very surprised if it does even that. It's a tiny article about a tiny blivet, and entirely appropriate that it looks small on the screen. Maybe the stub notice will attract more info... I'm going to let it sit for a while. cheers, Just plain Bill 14:38, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] hey tetris mostly works on knoppix 402 w/ ff1.5 but..

hey tetris works on knoppix 402 w/ ff1.5 but.. at the end, the "you lose" window never goes away, no matter what you click. had to use NoScript extension to kill it. cheers though The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.119.178.44 (talk • contribs) .

Yeah, I realised recently that I was using Firefox v 0.8.x (beta) on Damn Small Linux, which is probably why it didn't work. I know it should work in Firefox 1.5. Thanks for the feedback. -- Daverocks (talk) 05:42, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] You editted Dark Throne, do you play?

If so, could you let me know on either my talk page, by adding yourself to the Category:Wikipedians who play Dark Throne category, or both? Thanks!

You are very welcome...does your friend wiki? :)

[edit] The Sentinel (TV series), I need some help

Hello...

You showed an interest in the The Sentinel (TV series) by editting the page. I have recently editted the page to add episodes and to tidy up the characters. All of the work I did was reverted by the original author of the page, and I can not understand why this person refuses to see the good work that was done just because I use html over wiki code. I use html because it is what I know and it allows me a lot more control of the content that I add. The link to the work that I did on the page is here.

Please take a look and tell me your opinion on my talk page.

Lady Aleena 10:31, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

CC: User:Ben King, User:Berserker79

When it comes to making lists and tables, I prefer using html since I can control it. I can control a lot with html, but wiki code is so uncontrollable that I detest using it. Did you look at the page that was reverted? I can not lay out the lists the way that I wanted, to make the page scroll less, with wiki code. I could with html however. If you don't think that my efforts were worth it, I will understand.
Lady Aleena 07:28, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
I think it has to do with the fact that my version took out his regular and recurring cast headings. I have taken them out previously just to see them pop back in again. I have had an edit dispute before (with someone else) and worked it out reasonably. I will try to work it out, but I wanted others' opinions before I went to Andromeda to show that the way I laid out the page was a good idea. I am planning to use the same layout elsewhere, but if this is a problem on a small series like The Sentinel, then on more established series may cause me more heartache. Lady Aleena 07:50, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] respect

Thanks so much for respecting me back there. I do need that kind of help right now, there's a new person trying to remove the article for the second time, and I won't fight back again. Not alone.

Thanks!

[edit] css

referring to your reply on RD/S, no I don't know what it may have been scrambled with. How many other algorithms are in common use? After all, they would all need to be implemented in commercial DVD players, or otherwise customers will simply be unable to view their DVDs. How would I find out what a given DVD is scrambled with if decss fails? regards, dab () 15:11, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Keystrokes

Hi Dave! No hurry for the keystroke program. What scripting language are you going to use? I was a programmer from ~1982 to 1995 in C and a few other languages. I enjoyed DOS batch files because you could do little things and see the results without using a compiler. Like many other programmers, I made lots of "convenience" programs. But I've forgotten it all now. Thanks for your offer to help. --Halcatalyst 14:18, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

I don't even know what "n00bish" means? Heh. As for the script language you're using, my idea is that if it works* go for it. C++ -- I did a little in that language, but not enough to claim it as mine. I most remember seeing a video of its creator, Bjarne Stroustrup, explaining its virtues, of which there were many. --Halcatalyst 21:22, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

*usability and maintainability being the foremost necessities, but many more "-ilities" being required if the language is intended for serious professional usage.

Hi again Dave. Yes, if you can put together that keystroke program, I'd enjoy using it. --Halcatalyst 19:20, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

Dave: Thanks for completing the keystroke control program. I tried it out and it works fine. --Halcatalyst 14:53, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Yeah well

What you copied me silly. Oh and no personal attacks on wikipedia. :) --dbmoodb 22:18, 9 April 2006 (UTC) - That was an error on my part. I did not actually attempt to date my previous post for the 9th of April 2006 (UTC). That was simply a mistake. If I had wanted to make it look real, then surely I would have picked a date much earlier ? So I suggest it be noted that my previous message was posted in 2007, recently the specific date alludes me at the present time. Dbmoodb 11:58, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Boo scrshot.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Boo scrshot.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Chris Btalk 18:26, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
