[edit] Japanese Literature
Hi, I didn't have time to figure out Orkut so I'm dropping a line here ... thanks for your comments on the revised Japanese lit page! I felt bad making so many changes by myself, but hopefully it gets interest in the page going again. It would be great if themes were added and the individual history sections are fleshed out. I did my best to avoid just making a list of who wrote what and when, but I also wanted to mention the major works and authors of the times. It would be nice if we could add more historical data as well as characteristics of literature written during the different eras. Please add and edit as you see fit and let's keep building on the article! When I have time again I will add more too. CES 00:21, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Unit 731 protected
FYI, I've protected Unit 731 and moved the disputed text/photo to the talk page. Feel free to discuss there. Thanks. Fuzheado | Talk 02:07, 23 Aug 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Beer
Well I sometimes go to the Fiddler in Takadanobaba and very very very often can be found at Ben's cafe after work and on weekends. Post a message on my talk page if you want to meet later this week. Cheers Vincent 04:31, 19 Sep 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Blanking parts of talk page
I commend you for your good work on the superpower article with [1]! On a different topic, I did want to point out to you that it's considered bad form on Wikipedia to blank out some comments on your Talk page, as it might be seen as hiding past interactions with other users. On the other hand, archiving the Talk, with a link to the archive on the Talk page, is fine, and indeed, what many users do when their Talk pages start getting long. --Lowellian 08:09, Sep 23, 2004 (UTC)
On Wikipedia:Requests for comment, a common accusation against problem users is that they blank their user talk page to hide criticisms and conflicts with other users. (I am not implying that you are a "problem user"; I am just explaining the basis for my above comment.) You are correct that the user page itself is generally considered the inviolate domain of the user; the talk page, however, is more of a shared space, in the sense that other users will use it to make comments. Also, I quote from Wikipedia:User page: "Please avoid deleting discussion merely because it is critical of your actions - doing so will only make people repeat the same criticism, and will make you seem like you are ignoring criticism." --Lowellian 17:11, Sep 26, 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Newspaper rock pic
Hi! Thanks for uploading Image:Newspaper rock.jpg. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use gfdl if you release it under the GFDL, or fairuse if you claim fair use, etc.) Thanks so much, – Quadell (talk) (help)[[]] 20:25, Oct 7, 2004 (UTC)
- I have updated the copyright on this and all other images I have submitted. Please note that all images on www.davejenkins.com are covered under the GFDL. Thanks! Dave Jenkins
[edit] SLC POV statements
Thanks for taking care of those weird POV statements...I was afraid to take care of it, since I've gotten chewed out for removing things, so I wrote something about it on the Talk:Salt Lake City, Utah page. Once I was finished, they were gone...LOL

[edit] Japanese Naming Order
re: your commments on Wikipedia talk:Japanese Wikipedians' notice board, please also make sure that you vote at Wikipedia:Manual of Style for Japan-related articles/Naming order. It sounds like you will be voting for the first choice on Question 1, which is the one that I will probably be changing to. gK ¿? 11:39, 11 Nov 2004 (UTC)
[edit] any good cherry tree pictures?
For the kigo article, there is currently a nice closeup of some cherry blossoms. Personally, I think that it would be better to have a nice picture of one or two cherry trees in full bloom to better illustrate what the Japanese are referring to when they mention cherry blossoms in their haiku. If you have any that you would let the Wikipedia use, that would be greatly appreciated. gK ¿? 12:45, 16 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- 'Scuse me for butting in, but how about this? (Released by the National Parks Service, and in the Public Domain according to this page, as I read it, so you could crop the people out of the photo if you wanted.) – Quadell (talk) (help)[[]] 14:55, Nov 16, 2004 (UTC)
-
- That photo is like what I was looking for (and I don't think that the people are a problem). Unfortunately it was not done by an NPS photographer, but was created by Stephen Bear of The New York Botanical Garden and entered into an NPS photo contest (where it looks like not rights were transfered), so the NPS notice you pointed out does not apply (see the mention of "non-NPS material"). [edit] Article Licensing
Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:
- Multi-Licensing FAQ - Lots of questions answered
- Multi-Licensing Guide
- Free the Rambot Articles Project
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
- Option 1
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
OR
- Option 2
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)
[edit] Unverified images
Hi. You uploaded Image:SS-230 Finback.jpg but did not list any source and/or copyright information on the image description page. Please mark it either as GFDL or public domain. See Image copyright tags for more info. If the image was uploaded in error or cannot be licensed for use on Wikipedia, please add it to images for deletion. Please note that images without copyright information may be deleted in the future. Thanks. RedWolf 07:27, Jan 1, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Lakepowell2.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Lakepowell2.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use GFDL to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use article name or fairuse. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks so much. --SCEhardT 22:57, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] No personal attacks
In regards to this edit:
Please see Wikipedia's no personal attacks policy. Comment on content, not on contributors; personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Note that continued personal attacks may lead to blocks for disruption. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you. BigNate37(T) 06:09, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
- Nate, I thought my comment was directed at the content, and not the contributor. Hence the use of 'your own damned page', not 'your damned self'. huh. I guess things are getting pretty dicey around wikipedia. No wonder many of us long-time contributors are dropping away. Davejenk1ns
- Please don't threaten me with leaving the project, it sets a bad tone and it's not something that is going to get you special treatment. You know what part of your comment was unnecessary, and it should go without saying that "your own damned page" is inappropriate, especially in an edit summary. As far as Moosejaw.com, their use or abuse of Wikipedia does not justify rudeness, personal attacks, or any other inappropriate behaviour towards them. If you're unfamiliar with how to deal with external link spamming, or any other matter, I'll be happy to help how I can. BigNate37(T) 22:56, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Santaclaravolcano.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Santaclaravolcano.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
Replaceable fair use disputed
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 18:23, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi there, my name is Martin M. Elissetche. I'm a PhD student at the University of Maryland and the creator of a social science dictionary located at www.socialsciencedictionry.org. I wanted to know if I could place a copy of your thesis on my web site or whether you prefer if I just link to it. Please let me know what you think at info@socialsciencedictionary.org. [edit] Please help save Repo Man movie article
Hi Dave,
This guy, Dædαlus, is in there trying to remove parts that you, I and many others contributed to the Repo Man article. Please add to the bottom of this thread on the Repo Man talk page that you think the "Notable Motifs" section should not be blanked (erased), but left as is since the Pulp Fiction article also has a "Notable Motifs" section that isn't being considered for removal at all (even by Dædαlus himself).
While I agree that the "Notable Motifs" section could use some work, it certainly won't help the article to delete the whole thing and erase all our work which consists of many multiple contributers over a course of years. I'm willing to work on it and better incorporate it into the article, he just wants to delete it all!
With consensus, we can stop this guy from deleting all our work soon!
