References,Cultural References & "Dikkenek"
The literal translation of the word "Dikkenek" is "Fat Neck" or "Big Neck", it is a word used to describe a person that likes to show-off,brag,is agressive, obnoxious, wants to be the center of attention and usually is a motherboy, with frustrations regarding manhood. "Dikkenek", is not a fictional word, it is used mostly in the City Of Brussels and in the rest of Belgium. The Tagline of the movie is : " can damage the health of you and those around you", as a reference to the obligatorily Law that Cigarette Packs had to be labbeled with warnings on how cigarettes causes cancer, heart attacks,... there is also another funny insider when JC Pruposes a cigarette to Natacha, the pack reads : "Kills" or "Kill".
Dutch(Flemish,Belgian) & French(Belgian French) Collaboration
there is not much of a flemish community seen in the movie ,it seems neglected or omitted. e.g
-when Claudy, walks into the school hallway, he bumps into a young girl. This is shown in a long shot, the camera stays still and does not at once change angle until claudy walks out of the hallway. Claudy talks to her in French, she doesn't seem to understand him, this supposedly flemish girl's accent is French, and her voice is bearly hearable.
-in the scene at the garden party at sea, Claudy kneels down next to a woman in a bikini,he first says something incomprehensible and than he says in french : "surtout envie de voir se qui a en dessou" translating : " especially wanna see whats underneath", referring to what's underneath the bikini. she smiles sort of fake and says : "oh loop toch kakke jong." wich means "fuck off" or literately " go shit somewhere". However, her lips don't match the sentence, and again the accent is french.
Ironically, The Title and theme of the movie "Dikkenek" is a Flemish word.
