David T Hatchett BA (Hons), MA, PGCE, was born and brought up in east London, UK. His background is in education and after completing teacher training in the late 1990s and graduating with First Class Honours in 2000, he began his teaching career at a large, inner-city and multi-cultural junior school in east London for five years, holding various posts of responsibility. He also taught at a secure training centre in Kent for young offenders aged 12-17. He became the youngest SATs marker in the country in 2000/1 at the age of 22.
After graduating with a Masters degree in 2005, David became an Adviser for the Key Stage 2 English National Curriculum tests with a large and well-known examination board, which he continues to do. He has also authored a range of non-fiction textbooks for pupils with English as an additional language; these were published in 2005 and 2006 by a leading educational publisher. David is currently studying part time, for a Doctorate in Education. His areas of research interest are EAL and school improvement in schools facing challenging circumstances.
David is also a Governor at an east London infant school, a fresh start community primary school in north east London, and a large FE sixth form college also in east London. David also works as a referral order volunteer for a London-based youth offending team in his spare time.
