[edit] Why, you ask?

I happen to have some time free this summer (southern hemisphere). I come here thinking that I can try my hand again at writing some articles. So I had a look at the state of the wiki to see if it was as friendly as it was nine months ago.

[edit] It's over, they won

Congratulations! Notability is finally being used as a stick to keep articles small.

Pat yourself on the back on the back for a job well done, boys.

Not only do potentially good articles get deleted these days, but now the articles that they are merged to are kept too small to be useful.

[edit] Wikipedia has lost its value as a reference source

Wikipedia should be the first place the people come to get information. Instead it has become the second or the third. It comes as no surprise to me that off-site projects are now becoming a safe haven for the encyclopedic content that used to be hosted here.

Until pages on the wiki are actually allowed to grow into useful articles, Wikipedia will never be anything more than a collection of related information. The glue that made it a genuine encyclopedia has been lost.

Remember folks
  • Writing comes first. Editing comes later.
  • Build the article to 70k-150k+ and then consider trimming it.
  • You can't create works of art out of nothing.

Because the wiki has forgotten this!
