[edit] NPOV and Author
This article really reads as a CV for David Ritch, though parts are surely accurate. If there are so many sources, as User: Travisritch stated in the debate over deletion, they must be inserted. Wikification needs to take place as well. This is an article of concern because the principal author is the son of David Ritch, and thus many assertions, while possibly true, cannot be supported with references. The NPOV questions should be obvious to anyone.Shagmaestro 13:05, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
- In my opinion many of the sections could be removed as irrelevant (IE his early life and work) without harming the article, and while improving the POV issues, but I'm not quite feeling bold enough to go in and axe whole sections without some debate on the merits. - Ran into this article via Wikification drive. Wikification is going to take place soon as Dec 06 is our oldest month of tagged articles. While I'm happy to wikify, I always try to avoid wasted effort so would like to have other issues - WP:NPOV, WP:Notability - resolved first. Frankly, I have a lot of questions as to why this person is notable - it's basically an orphaned biography - and even if he is notable, most of the information contained within is not. --Sesameball 10:40, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] My contribution
Hi,
I haven't looked at the article in a while and noticed it has attracted the attention of more active editors!
A few things I would like to comment on.
1) The article does contain information which I am the only source for. It, I suppose, can go because although it is all true, I can't back some of it up. When I first wrote the article, I was mimicking the style of articles about people where information such as university education is known with a quick search.
2) His profile has increased considerably since I wrote this article. In several legal magazines he is consistently rated the top real estate lawyer in the country. He has been called the "JFK of Cayman" and was even recommended for sainthood in a magazine! He is likely going to be named Cayman's third National Hero and will probably also have his OBE upgraded. A lot of the publicity he receives just doesn't make it to the internet or isn't in a format which appears in a search engine and I can't help that. Adding "Cayman Islands" at the end helps tremendously.
3) I have been fighting various ways for a greater internet presence for the region in general. Wikipedia being what it is, I thought an article on a well-known Caribbean name might help and I just thought of my father first. Soon after other articles about Caymanians began to surface and improve.
4) Because this article will probably not attract much attention, I'm comfortable saying here that he is resigning his most current post as Chairman of the Work Permit Board effective at the end of this month (it is not public yet.) More encyclopedic articles will probably be written then as most of what is on the news now is current affairs.
5) I am sure you can appreciate that although I was able to win the battle over the article's deletion, it is still difficult in a unique way to see people discuss an article about "dad." I got shivers just seeing all those tags at the top of the article. In the interest of getting those off, I'm here to help do what needs to be done.Travisritch 06:32, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
