[edit] Lyrics for the Pixies?

I've got printed in the back of my head, that David Lovering has written (or co-written) a couple of songs for the Pixies. I think "River Euphrates" and "Levitate Me" are at least partially his songs. Could anyone confirm this? - Mickey Macaroni 20:11, 14 May 2007 (CET)

[edit] Dispute involving the song "Make Believe"

I am currently doing a rewrite for the Deborah Gibson article and have to question the relevance of "Make Believe" to the rewrite. From other sources, I am under the impression that Black Francis, at the time he wrote "Make Believe," actually wrote the song to the girlfriend of one of the bandmembers, comparing this girlfriend to Gibson ("Just make believe you're Debbie G"). This leads me to suspect that Gibson was in fact NOT the subject of "Make Believe." Is there any differing opinion that can give me cause not to purge the reference to "Make Believe" from my rewrite of the Deborah Gibson article? - B.C.Schmerker 04:13, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

From the Complete 'B' Sides liner notes (written by Black Francis): "David Lovering sings lead. He kept us very entertained with this obsession with Debbie Gibson, and that's what this song is about." Now I remember! The chatter at the begining of "I'm Amazed" on Surfer Rosa. Kim Deal appears to be talking about the low-key way she learned Lovering was gay (into field hockey players). Isn't that his voice responding back to her that he applied for the team? -- AvatarMN 21:30, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
From Surfer Rosa; Deal says there was a teacher "into field hockey players", so Francis (not Lovering) completes her sentence, saying she wanted to join the team because of that. You learn something new everyday :) CloudNine 21:32, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I was just reading that on the Surfer Rosa article and came back to edit my comment only to see you'd already replied. I really thought that was Lovering's voice, and misinterperted the "speaking for Deal" thing. ... Well, anyway, my gaydar still gives me some major blips on Lovering and I coulda sworn it was common knowledge, but I guess I was mistaken and if he's gay he hasn't come out. -- AvatarMN 21:40, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cracker?

Has anyone got access to a reliable source stating Lovering drummed in Cracker? His name is similar to that of the band's frontman, David Lowery, but some sources ([1], [2]) state he drummed live with the band. Any thoughts? CloudNine (talk) 17:20, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Lowery is from California, so there's not a direct connection between him and Lovering. I'm pretty sure though that that Spin article about the Pixies reformation mentioned Lovering had drummed with Cracker, though. WesleyDodds (talk) 22:32, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

  • No free image? Check Flickr etc. (if you haven't already) - it'd really look good to have one.
  • No, there's none. I'll try asking for a photo to be relicensed ([3] and [4] are the one's I'll try first)
  • "...the "great unacknowledged anchor" of the band[1] and said that his unique influences gave him..." - You need a bit of punctuation before the ref - eg. a comma
  • Fixed.
  • "he took a job building lasers and continued to drum" - a wlink for "lazer" would be useful here.

  • "a song about his "obsession" with American singer-songwriter Debbie Gibson." - "American" has been wlinked previously and singer-songwriter is rather evident, so neither of those wlinks are fully necessary
  • Removed wlink. However, I'd say that "singer-songwriter" isn't obvious to all readers; it's worth leaving it in so they don't have to click the link to find out who she is.
  • "The Pixies toured sporadically throughout 1991 and 1992. They eventually broke up in 1992, mostly due to tensions between Francis and Deal, although the breakup was not publicly announced until 1993." - Source/Ref? (You should be able to get a source from Pixies)

  • Ref 16 probably isn't fully reliable; do you have another source for that statement?

  • In para 2 of the "The Scientific Phenomenalist and other projects" section, Grant-Lee Phillips is hyphonated - in para 3 it isn't. Fix this up.
