question
Hello,
I am David's biographer; I noticed you have very up-to-date information about him - information only his closest friends and colleagues know about. Where are you getting this information. According to David, it is very accurate. You are doing a nice job.
Thanks,
JC Smith
Answer to question
Thank you for your question. I am assuming you are talking about Christian recording star David L Cook? If so, I am a historian and make it my job to stay upon informative information highways. David is a public figure and the information that I have added to his page is public information. I also have friends who are movers and shhakers within the Christian music market and are really up to date on the things going on within the genre. I hope this has answered your question. Please let David know that it thrills me that he feels I am doing a good job for his article. You say you are David s biographer? Are you working on a book about David and if so, when will it be ready? This ould be something that should be included in his article. If you should have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Junebug52 04:45, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
Change WikiProject status
I changed the Gospel music WikiProject status from a "A" back to a "B". As a general rule articles should not reach "A" status or higher until they have had some sort of formal review. I would recommend requesting a Peer Review or a requesting a review on the WikiProject page. Just a quick scan of the article: You probably want to add more third party references (especially in the biography section) to reach "A" class. Absolon S. Kent (talk) 19:52, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
References
This is a problem: "Cook was born in Pascagoula, Mississippi but after two years his family relocated to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida where he attended the prestigious Pine Crest School and later graduated from Boyd Anderson High School. Cook began his musical career at the age of five with his family, The Cook Family Singers. His parents divorced in 1980, which brought an end to four generations of the musical group". [2]
The reference [2] does not mention the prestigious Pine Crest School at all, or anything else apart from the singing family. --andreasegde (talk) 19:51, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for pointing that out. I did not know I did not add the source for that. It is done now Canyouhearmenow 20:49, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
What does the L stand for? Maybe you should include that. bibliomaniac15 23:18, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
- There is no meaning for the L. David does not have a middle name that is published. It is a Cook Family trait. The use of their middle initials have been used all the way through the family history. I contacted Mr. Cook's publicist and they were very assertive about using the middle initial. GA nom failed
- Remember to include the publisher=xyz field on {{cite web}}
- Per WP:MUSTARD, refer to albums in italics (for example in "The song was featured on his album "In the Middle of it All" which garnered")*
- Don't wlink to individual years, eg. 1999
- Many of the statements in the 2nd paragraph of the lead section need sources
- When placing a ref, put in on top of some punctuation (per WP:FOOTNOTE), eg. "Bob said sup.[1]"
These issues are fairly major throughout the article, so I'll fail it for now. When you're done (take your time!) please contact me and I'll take another look. dihydrogen monoxide (H20) 10:16, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
- Oh wow, that was a quick improvement, well done :) I'll read the article in full now and point out some more stuff, see how we go, eh? dihydrogen monoxide (H20) 06:18, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
Some more GA comments
*"Cook's lyrics often take a look at the church and the problems that they face when it comes to handing down judgment upon common people with everyday problems."" - Where's the start of the quote? Done
*Some references still need publisher information. See, for example, Powderfinger, or ask me if you don't understand what this means. Done I use this template to do my cite web [1] so I guess I am not understanding where to put a publisher in here. I was under the impression that it was already included when I submitted the URL. At least that was my impression. So, please show me in this template where a publisher would go. Secondly, is the publisher the owner of the site I am retrieving the source from?

- Have a look at this example where I added publisher=IMDB. And yes, the publisher is the website where you get the info from. dihydrogen monoxide (H20) 22:16, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
*In the infobox, "Singing" isn't really an instrument Done
*I doubt he was active "1972 – present" if he was born in '68 (infobox) Cook was in fact active with his parents in 1972. He was 4 yrs old and made his first appearance at 5 to the public. I did not include this info because I could not find a source except for the subject themselves. Done
*"Cook continued singing both gospel and secular music. [11]" - There shouldn't be a space between the ref and period. I've fixed this in some situations. Done
Several statements in the "Early life" section need sourcing, including;"Cook suffered at the hands of a father with a severe drinking problem""After many years of this abuse David developed many psychological problems that ended up following him through to his life as an adult." - Also refer to him as Cook here, not David"David recalls having periods of "missing time" but never really understood why it was happening" - Again, call him Cook"Cook had been around Charlotte for five months and no one realized that there was anything wrong with him until he started developing stroke symptoms again.""Cook had no recollection of leaving Florida, nor what he had done during his five months in Charlotte. When asked, he stated that, "It was like someone switching off a light and then switching it back on.""This section is covered under one cite because it links you to a video that Cook makes all of these statements and tell the whole story. I did not feel that it needed individual cites when one can cover them all. Done- OK, that's fine then. dihydrogen monoxide (H20) 22:16, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
*The image in the "Music" section needs a better caption Done
*"former member of the popular 50's group, the Lane Brothers[17] [18]" - These refs need to go somewhere Done
*Ref 19: You can't cite Wikipediam Done
*"That album contained six number one hits for Cook and maintains it's position as the number one selling Christian Country album of all time" - That --> The, it's --> its, and you need a more reliable ref Although I felt the the reference was sufficient for the statement, I did remove the statement because no other reference could be found due to the date. Done

- This still needs to be done... dihydrogen monoxide (H20) 07:18, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
*"in the tradition of comedic country alter egos like Jim Nabors' eccentric Gomer Pyle persona." - need a ref for it being in this tradition Done

*"That same year the (Country Gospel Music Association)" - why the brackets? Done
*"In July 2006, the ICGMA" - What's the ICGMA? Done
*Merge the 2nd last and last paragraphs of the music section, or else expand them Done
*Don't start the Television section with "Throughout the years", it doesn't sound good
"as The Carol Burnett show as well as, the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson." - remove the comma, and TV shows go in italicsDone
*I don't think his appearance on game shows is notable (and it's unsourced...) Done
*"Cook will actually appear in the episode entitled, "Master Class."" - the "actually" isn't necessary, but a ref is Done
*"In this episode you will see Cook working with younger artists such as the Whippersnappers and Caroline Keller." - this section is verging on WP:CRYSTAL, and needs a rewrite. the "you will be seeing" etc. isn't encyclopediac, see also WP:Recentism. Done Although I don't view this as a violation of WP:CRYSTAL, I did fix it.
*"The Christian Music Hall of Fame and Museum just announced that Cook..." - recentism again Done
*"Hee Haw legend, Lulu Roman" - "legend" is POV here, rewrite. Done
Leave a note on my talk page when done with this, and we'll see where to go from there. Cheers, dihydrogen monoxide (H20) 06:59, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
