i thought david hasselhoff was gay! it says in the first paragraph that he was in The Young and the Restless with chuck norris. chuck norris was not in this program, chuck norris does not like serial dramas or comedy of any kind, furthermore he thinks you're ugly. that you're all ugly. la la la la.

His song, Hot Shot City, is particularly good. - StoneColdCrazy 19:33, 8 Dec 2004 (UTC)

About as good as Leif Garrett singing "My old man's a dustman"!

I removed the stement about his 'claiming to have helped reunite Germany'. The only sources I can find for this are a number of blogs, all with suspiciously similar wording, some getting the facts wrong (they say he made the claim in 1989, before the wall came down). They all claim to trace the quote back to a German magazine, Spielfilm. They keep quoting him as saying "I find it a bit sad that there is no photo of me hanging on the walls in the Berlin Museum at Check-Point Charlie", but the museum was for escapees, not for those helping with reunification. This sounds like exactly the sort of quote someone might have said jokingly, and then was blown up as a real claim by either the magazine or the bloggers. Either way it's too dumb for Wikipedia. The article relating to David Hasselhoff 'claiming to have helped reunite Germany' can be found on Ananova. --Ngiese 20:07, 24 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I have to admit, usually you assume that when an actor has claimed to have said a quote like this, it was either taken completely out of context, or they have a massive ego. Thing is though that many Germans, especially those who lived in the former East Germany, think the David Hasselhoff helped bring the Germans together somehow. He was something that they both had in common. Remember, he was the Hollywood star, and child of German descendants who came to his ancestral homeland to help bring it back together. Sometimes its hard for Anglo people to wrap around their heads just how popular and significant to the zeitgeist Hasselhoff was in the early 90's. He might not have had the effect that the Pope John Paul II had in bringing down communism from within, but his music did help make the transition smoother. You could say he developed the "soudtrack for reunification." rasblue 18:57, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

CA Penalty Assessment

I think it's this, but the numbers aren't quite right. From a real standard Cali (at least for Santa Clara County) sentencing order (for a second DUI sentenced on Feb 19, 2004):

Fine:     $400
"PA":      900
"CSA":      20
"DRF/RF":  100 (I think 'restitution fund'--P.C Section 1001.90)
"APA/DPF": 50 (this is the one recently added to the article)
"LAB":      20 (blood test)
"NC":        1 (night court)
"AR":       35

For a total of $1526. Niteowlneils 20:15, 10 July 2005 (UTC)

On a first DUI on Jan 17, 2002, most of the numbers are the same, but the PA is only $680, there is no CSA, and the AR is only "w", 10, or 20 (can't quite make it out), or a total of $1251 (or 1261 or 1271). Niteowlneils 20:26, 10 July 2005 (UTC)

Popularity in Ireland

For the past year there has been an upsurge in the cult following of David Hasselhoff in Ireland. Posters and emails of "the hoff" have been doing the rounds.

I believe he is opening a niteclub in Kildare in a few weeks time.

There is also an online petition for him play at the oxegen festival which currently has close to 20,000 sigs.

I'm at a loss to explain it as he hasn't done anything of note here recently but everyone is talking about it.

Anyone have anymore info?

Tregoweth

Before reverting back to an earlier version, please explain why you do so. I believe there is nothing wrong with my version. Dean.l 20:10, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

  • Well, it's not quite NPOV, for one thing. tregoweth 02:26, 25 October 2005 (UTC)
    • How isn't it NPOV and why didn't you say that in the first place? Dean.l 04:55, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

Posters

I took these images off of the page, but I put them here because, maybe possibly, someone might be able to incorporate them into the article in a better way. Gus 07:16, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

Neutrality issues?

In 2004, Looking for … the Best became the highest rated CD on Amazon.com, receiving an incredible number of 5-star ratings. This was the culmination of a spontaneous internet joke that has been going on for several years, in which Amazon customers review the album. This statement does not cite any sources and should thus be deleted.

This is completely factual and can be checked by anyone interested in checking it just by clicking the provided link. No source is needed to confirm it in the face of such evidence. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 80.58.8.42 (talkcontribs) .

The article in general needs a cleanup, it portraits Hasselhoff as a laughable eccentric and hardly mentions his success in Germany, Austria and Switzerland without ridiculing it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 130.208.138.171 (talkcontribs) .

But isn't he a laughable eccentric?? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 202.0.108.203 (talk • contribs) .

Have tidied up the article, believe it now portrays the Hoff accurately,so have removed the POV tag. --OscarTheCattalk 15:25, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
The original poster wanted a source to be cited for the "...is particularly good" reviews phenomena, see [1], [2], [3] and [4] --Oscarthecat 18:18, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

An editor deleted a reference in the last sentence of the section "Late career" to a website critical of David Hasselhoff’s endorsement of Pipex. The information was described as a "rant". I can only imagine that this was a reference to the content of the critical website, as there was nothing which could be fairly described as a “rant” contained in the information which had been deleted from this Wikipedia article. The question of whether the relevant comments published on the critical website constitute a "rant", or amount to fair comment, could only be judged by reading all salient information on the critical website. The principle which therefore arises is whether Wikipedia rules and policies are to be extended to the information published on website links? I would respectfully suggest that this would not be a realistic proposition. There is a reference to a website in the same sentence to a website promoting Hasselhoff as the "king of the internet", so it seems reasonable for the sake of balance to have a reference to a website which takes a different view. quotes

there's some priceless quotes by him - things like how he helps world peace and every dying child dreams of meeting him. perhaps we could have a quotes section or does that ALL belong on wikiquote.

Vandalism

I put the wrong summary in my last edit to the article "per last post" when it should have been "rm v by Martin Van Buren." A very naughty president, apparently. Шизомби 19:08, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

Jokes about David Hasselhoff

I find it breathtaking that there is no mention in this article about the huge volume of tongue-in-cheek jokes about David Hasselhoff ('The Hoff') that regularly circulate on the forwarded email jokes circuit. Not a week passes without someone emailing me another slideshow or series of Hoff-related humour. Come on folks, get real. It's what he's best known for now, not Baywatch or Knight Rider. For example, just look at these (possibly insincere) customer reviews of his greatest hits on Amazon: [5] —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Labcoat (talkcontribs) .

There was a separate article on this phenomenon which came on AFD a while ago. However, you're right: the "Hoff" phenomenon (mugs, "Don't Hassle the Hoff" T-shirts, etc.) should be mentioned. --Saforrest 15:31, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

German speaker?

Okay, so he's very popular in Germany (or at least, he was in 1989), and the article makes some mention of his saying a few words in German.

His last name is certainly German. Is there any evidence he actually speaks German with any fluency? --Saforrest 15:31, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

Check out the song "Du" its fully in german

Um...people can sing songs in languages in which they're not fluent. Many English speakers know "Frere Jacques" and "Alouette" without having a clue what they mean. Raggaga 18:58, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

The Beatles sang two songs in German, but I don't think any of them spoke it as a second language. Kenny Rogers sang in Spanish, but I have never seen any evidence that suggests he speaks it fluent. 74.65.39.59 13:30, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

the perception that hasselhoff is a huge, revered star in germany is ridiculous. he is remembered for baywatch and knight rider. thats it. --Tresckow 07:50, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Trsesckow is right. Hasselhoff is more a kind of a joke in Germany, a tv/movie star who thinks he can sing. His one-hit-wonder in 89 (!) was mainly based on buys by the grandmother generation and east Germans who don't speak english. Furthermore he does surely not speak more than a couple of words of German, comparabel to Elvis who sang "Wooden Heart" in German ("Muss'I denn"), who didn't speak German either. IMHO this myth about his huge success in Germany must be based on his own marketing propaganda. lanxfax --217.224.52.159 13:10, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Highest rated?

I'm noticing some controversy over whether David H.'s CD became the "highest rated" CD on Amazon. So far as I know, Amazon does not publish lists of "most highly rated" CD's. Does anyone has a source for this? I've looked at Oscarthecat's sources above, but the only ones that say it's the highest rated source are direct quotes from the Wikipedia article, which make it not so much a source as a destination. Until there is definitive proof it became the "highest rated" CD, I am changing it to "abnormally highly rated". Raggaga 18:57, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Get The Hoff to Number 1

I have updated it to show 15 000 signups so far. Will Keep an eye on it. Murmur 11:15, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

It will be kinda funny I guess if he gets the number 1, but I suspect that the following week it will drop to something like #60. 74.65.39.59 20:16, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

I've updated the signups to 33,000. Also I have changed the paragraph about Scott Mills to more accurately represent the chronology of events, and that Scott Mills' BBC website promotes the original "Get Hasselhoff to Number 1" website.

irony / humour icon

it seems to me we should have this as the latest section of his career as thats what seems to be driving the current hoff phase and we should start it with the amazon reviews and the hoff as the devil thing and then expand from there with references to pop bitch. its something the hoff fully understands, just check out his latest video or that appearnce in dodgeball. he is a post modern ironic icon.

I agree. Hasselhoff is like the new Chuck Norris for 'kooky' internet posters, and i feel it should be added. Adamshappy 16:23, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

porn star

Can the reference to David having an affair with Mary Glasheen the porn star be validated. I can't even find any reference of the woman online let alone anything saying it happened. Vandalism?

1994 Concert & OJ

I think this should be considered an urban legend. Even if people changed the channel during the show, that would have no effect on the show bombing as people would have already bought it. --David Bixenspan 01:59, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

David's Biggest Fan

The Hoff's biggest fan is an Irish man named Daryl Gillespie. On the 1st of October 2006 Daryl achieved his dream of meeting the Hoff in Easons bookstore in Dublin.

I applaud that. IolakanaT 19:51, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

His music

Shoudln't there be some kind of suggestion that his music is profoundly terrible? I'm pretty sure he's well aware of it anyway.

The Producers

This article indicates that Hasselhoff will play the part of Roger DeBris in Mel Brooks's musical The Producers. However, the article indicates that he will play Franz Liebkind. Does anyone have references to backup the information in the article? Locano 00:33, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

"You show bout dait!".Mitchell Penn

The article mentions that he played Mitchell Penn with the catch phrase "You show bout dait!". Does anyone know what show this is from? Jabam 18:21, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Goitre

I hear tell he has a goitre, or perhaps had one. Can this be verified? -DrSwiftus
