DavkaWriter is a Hebrew-English word processing program for Windows.
Hebrew word processing is special in that Hebrew reads from right to left, so that simply changing the font to a Hebrew character font is insufficient for creating a Hebrew document.[citation needed] While there were several other programs written to address this need, DavkaWriter is the product that has become most preferred.[citation needed] While Microsoft Word is the most popular word processor in the Windows environment, its Hebrew version is cumbersome and unpredictable, possibly because it is just the regular Word program tweaked and twisted to conform to the Hebrew rules.[citation needed]
In contrast, DavkaWriter works properly with Hebrew out of the box, with no system modifications required. Moreover, it handles nikud precisely, something that other leading programs do not do. It supports cantillation marks, which other leading products don't know exist.[citation needed] It even handles the special characters used in writing Yiddish.
Its built-in tools include a dictionary, a thesaurus, and a translating tool. It comes with the complete Hebrew texts of the Bible and many other volumes of Jewish literature. Its spellchecker recognizes both English and Hebrew words.
