The Davidson Academy of Nevada is a public school located in Reno, Nevada. The school, founded by Jan and Bob Davidson, is for profoundly gifted children capable of working at a middle school level or above, and is the first public school of this kind in the USA.[1] It is currently located in the second floor of the KNPB building on the University of Nevada, Reno campus, but is planning to relocate to the second level of the former Jot Travis Student Union next year. The academy has 44 students, although the school is planning to accept more in coming years, with a potential rise to 100 students for the 2008-2009 school year. Each student will have a personalized learning plan. In addition, students may use laptops to assist with standard school tasks. The Academy's current director is Colleen Harsin.

The school is based at the University of Nevada at Reno and opened in the fall of 2006. Students can take advantage of all the educational opportunities of being on a college campus. Professor Milton Glick, the current president of the University of Nevada, Reno, is working with the Academy.[2]

  • The Davidson Academy Math Team took first place in the state team competition for MathCounts. [3]
  • The Davidson Academy Spanish Knowledge Bowl team took second place in the Knowledge Bowl, and the Language Expressions team took first place.
