David Stein (radio host)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

David Stein is the host of The David Stein Show on the Sporting News Radio Network. Termed "a celebration of life through sports,"[1] this overnight show (2-6 AM EST) focuses on positive thinking and inspirational stories in sports and from its listeners. For instance, Stein begins each call from his listeners by asking, "What's good in your life?" The show can be heard on hundred of radio stations across America, on XM Satellite Radio, and on Sporting News' website.[2]

Listeners are also encouraged to perform random acts of kindness and to pay it forward. His show invites people to "step onto the court," both in life and in the show. The David Stein Show has many "friends of the show"--- ie, repeat callers,--- possibly due to its time slot. The show often touches the bases of off-sports sports headlines (Nathan Vasher's mother and her battle with Bipolar Disease, the homophobic comments of Tim Hardaway, Michael Vick's dog-fighting ring, and other non-statistic talk) Other broadcasting experience includes broadcasting live from big-time events such as The US Open Golf Championship, The Masters, US Open tennis, World Series, and League Championship Series NASCAR, NHRA, IRL, The Democratic and Republican National Conventions, and The Presidential Inauguration. He has even broadcast a show from inside the White House His play-by-play duties have included baseball, football and the American Legion World Series. Stein went to The Hill School in Pottstown, PA, and Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA, and is a former stand-up comic. He owns a comedy club in Reading, Pennsylvania.

[edit] Criticism

Stein's show, while perhaps popular with a small percentage of his radio audience, is widely criticized for being preachy and not about sports. David Stein's knowledge of sports frequently comes into question for most sports other than Golf. His show is also criticized for being about topics other than sports, so that his lack of knowledge is not exposed to his audience.
