David Short
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
David Short (born John David Short on June 13, 1934) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm offbreak bowler who played for Derbyshire.
Short's debut in first-class cricket came in 1957, the same time as he started representing Derbyshire in the Minor Counties Championship. Short's debut appearance came thanks to an innings defeat in the 1957 County Championship, a season where, despite giving himself a decent shot at success in the middle order, he averaged below 10.
Short spent the whole of 1958 out of the game, before playing for the Second XI in 1959. He returned to the first team in time for the start of 1960, and, despite hitting a half-century against Warwickshire - the only one of his first-class career - he found himself out of the team by the end of the season.
Short's brother, Bob played cricket for the Derbyshire Second XI from 1967 to 1968 and for Cambridge University from 1969 to 1970.
