David Sheppard (broadcaster)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

David Sheppard is a presenter on BBC Local Radio.

He's part of the current BBC Radio Berkshire line-up, and regularly appears on BBC Radio Solent and BBC Radio Oxford, also occasionally presenting a regional phone-in show heard across the South of England on BBC Radio Kent, BBC Southern Counties Radio, BBC Radio Oxford, BBC Radio Solent and BBC Radio Berkshire.

Born in Reading, Berkshire in 1981, he grew up in Twyford, Berkshire, and attended comprehensive school in Wargrave. At 16 he became a regular correspondent on BBC Radio 2's 'Wake Up to Wogan' – under the guise of the "Assistant to the Director General", his writings appeared daily for the next eight years.

He read English at Bristol University, where he ran the student radio station (Burst) and presented the breakfast show.

David joined the BBC in 2002, working alongside his studies on the regional evening radio show (fronted by Richard L Lewis) at BBC Radio Bristol, and making regular appearances on BBC Radio Berkshire during vacations. He fronted his first show for the latter on January 2, 2004.

David also appears as the voice of trails and jingles on numerous BBC stations up and down the country, as well as a number of recent television trails.

Unlikely appearances include starring as the invisible compere for Timmy Mallett's UK tour in 2005, and the smallest of cameo roles in BBC2's Top Gear in 2006 – as a reporter on Jeremy Clarkson's radio. His love of coffee was documented in a BBC2 television documentary, The Truth About Food, shown early in 2007.

He lives in Caversham, Berkshire, and is the co-owner of a Routemaster (one of London's famous red buses) with Ken Bruce, Alan Dedicoat, Charles Nove and Steve Madden.
