David Schmader

David Schmader (born November 22, 1968 in El Paso, Texas) is an American playwright, monologist, humorist, and journalist.

After graduating from the North Carolina School of the Arts, Schmader moved to Seattle. His solo plays Letter to Axl and Straight combined autobiographical monologue with journalistic investigation and led to his affiliation with the Seattle publication The Stranger, where he's been an associate editor and columnist since 1998. Schmader is well-known for his work as the documentarian for the 1995 cult film Showgirls. His commentary can be found in the V.I.P. Edition of the Showgirls DVD.
