David S. Bennett

David Smith Bennett (May 3, 1811 - November 6, 1894) was a U.S. Representative from New York.
Born on a farm near Camillus, New York, Bennett attended the common schools and the local academy in Onondaga. He engaged in agricultural pursuits. He moved to Syracuse and engaged in the produce business, afterwards extending his business to New York City. He moved to Buffalo in 1853 and built and operated several grain elevators. Also purchased the original Dart grain elevator.
Bennett was elected a member of the State senate in 1865.
Bennett was elected as a Republican to the Forty-first Congress (March 4, 1869-March 3, 1871). He declined to be a candidate for renomination in 1870. He resumed his former business pursuits in Buffalo, New York, where he died November 6, 1894. He was interred in Oakwood Cemetery, Syracuse, New York.
