David Reginald Younger

David Reginald Younger VC (17 March 1871 - 11 June 1900) was a Scottish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.

He was 29 years old, and a captain in the 1st Battalion, The Gordon Highlanders, British Army during the South African War (Boer War) when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC.

On 11 July 1900 near Krugersdorp, South Africa, Captain Younger took out a party which successfully dragged an artillery waggon under cover of a small kopje, though exposed to very heavy and accurate enemy fire. He also accompanied a second party who went out to try to bring in the guns, but during the afternoon he was mortally wounded, dying shortly afterwards. See also William Eagleson Gordon
