David Robert Nygren (born 30 December 1938) is a particle physicist known for his invention of the Time projection chamber[2]. He currently works at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, where he has worked since 1973.[3] He has been called "the most distinguished developer of particle detection instruments in the country".[3]

Nygren is a fellow of the American Physical Society.[1]
