David R. Knechtges

David R. Knechtges (born 1942) is a professor of East Asian languages and literature at the University of Washington and a world renowned sinologist focusing on ancient Chinese Literature.

Knechtges is best known for translating the rhapsody (fu) section of the Wenxuan, a major collection of early Chinese literature. The translation, which eventually will comprise the whole of the Wen xuan, has been ongoing, though not continuously, for over 25 years.

In October 2006 Knechtges was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
