In February 25th, 1861, he married H.R.H. Princess Victoria Kinoiki Kekaulike who the sister of the Queen Kapiolani the wife of his cousin Kalakaua. This marriage brought him closer to his cousins newly elected royal family. They had three sons David, named after himself; Edward, named after Prince Kealiiahonui of Kauai; and Jonah, named after Pi'ikoi's father and Kekaulike's father. His sons should have followed the family surname of Pi'ikoi, but this was not the case and his son each used their own personal names as their surname. David's descendant would be Kawananakoa, Edward's descendant would be Keliiahonui, and Jonah's would be Kalanianaole.[2]

Pi'ikoi died in 1880. His wife was granted the title of Princess and style of Her Royal Highness, in 1883 during Kalakaua's coronation and his three sons were also granted title of Prince and style of His Highness.
