David Nicholson Mares' Hurdle
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The David Nicholson Mares Hurdle is a Grade 2 National Hunt hurdle race in the United Kingdom for four-year-old and above mares. It is run over a distance of 2 miles 4½ furlongs (4,124 metres) on the New Course at Cheltenham Racecourse during the Cheltenham Festival in March. There are ten hurdles to be jumped in the race.
The race is a new addition to the Cheltenham Festival and was run for the first time in 2008. It is named in honour of David Nicholson (1939-2006) who was British jump racing Champion Trainer in the 1994/95 and 1995/96 seasons and who both rode and trained winners at the Cheltenham Festival during his career.
