David Merkow

David Bartos Merkow (born May 5, 1985) is an American golfer.

In Arrowhead Union High School in Hartland, Wisconsin, he was all-state as a junior and senior, AJGA Polo honorable mention All-American in 2002, first-team all-conference honors all four years, Conference Player of the Year honors in his sophomore and senior seasons, and helped his team to a state championship his sophomore season.

He chose to go to Northwestern University, where he was an economics major.

In the 2004-05 season he shot a 3-under 210 at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, and delivered his career-low score (67) in the second round of that tourney and again in the last round of the Bruce Fossum/TaylorMade Invitational.

In 2005-06 he was named Big Ten Player of the Year, First-team All-Big Ten, honored as a member of the Ping All-Midwest Region team, and Academic All-Big Ten. Merkow ended his career 6th in Northwestern's all-time stroke average, at 74.27.

Merkow won the 11th Pan-American Maccabi Games at Hacoaj Golf Club in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with a score of 292 (-10). He has full status on the Hooters tour after winning the 2008 Hooters Tour Ranking School by 4 shots. He is extremely long off the tee, an excellent ball-striker, and a streaky putter.

Merkow played in both the 2006 and 2007 U.S. Amateurs, at Hazeltine Golf Club and The Olympic Club, respectively. Making the match play both years, Merkow finished 21st and 2nd in the stroke play portion of the event.

He began the spring of 2006 with a national ranking of No. 100 (Golfweek/Sagarin index).
