David Maurice Lighty, Jr. (born May 27, 1988 in Cleveland, Ohio) is an American college basketball player for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Lighty was a highly sought after recruit (ranked #30 in the country by Sports Illustrated) and remains a contributor to the Ohio State basketball team.

[edit] High School Years

Lighty attended and played basketball at Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School. He was named Cleveland Plain Dealer player of the year in 2005, his junior year. Lighty averaged 22 points per game during his senior year and led VASJ to a state runner-up finish.

[edit] College Carrer

Being on the same team as eventual top-5 NBA draft picks Greg Oden and Mike Conley, Jr., Lighty did not see much playing time his freshman year. He averaged 3.7 points and 2.3 rebounds in 16 minutes per game off the bench. During the NCAA Tournament, Lighty remained a solid contributor. In the two regional games, Lighty averaged 7.0 points per game and made a key 3-point shot that gave the buckeyes the lead in the regional semifinal game against Tennessee. He was also partly responsible for guarding Georgetown's Jeff Green during their Final Four game. The future Number 5 pick of the 2008 NBA Draft was held to five shots, the fewest he had taken in 23 games. [1] During his sophomore year, Lighty is averaging 9.4 points and 4.6 rebounds in 33 minutes per game. (As of 15 December 2007)
