David Lee Stone (born 25 January 1978)[citation needed] is an English fantasy author best known[citation needed] for his series of books: The Illmoor Chronicles. David was born in Margate hospital to Barbara Ann Stone and Henry "Harry" Cooke[citation needed].
David Lee Stone (aka David Grimstone) is a fantasy author from Kent, England. His books have been professionally published in many countries and also in several different languages. His publishers include Disney (US), Sony (Japan), Buena Vista (Italy) and Hodder Headline (UK).
David started writing at the age of 10 and was submitting manuscripts to publishers by the time he was 13. His first ever appearance in print was in the letters section of science-fiction comic 2000AD in April 1993, and his first short story ‘The Dulwich Assassins' was published in Xenos magazine during April 1997.
Inspired by these achievements, David quickly began to write short stories, review columns and articles for many different magazines. Between 1997 and 2002, his work appeared in Interzone, SFX, Games Workshop's Citadel Journal, The Edge and many others. The ‘Dulwich Assassins' was taken for reprinting in ‘Knights of Madness', a fantasy anthology edited by Peter Haining that also contained stories by Terry Pratchett and Tom Sharpe.
In 2002, David's agent sold the first three of his ‘Illmoor Chronicles' to UK publishing giant Hodder Headline. The series, which David had started creating in note-form when he was just 12 years old, went on to sell to Disney in the US, Sony in Japan and also in China, Russia, Japan, France, Italy, Brazil, Greece, Norway, Holland and Thailand.
To date, David has written seven books: six volumes of The Illmoor Chronicles and (writing as David Grimstone) the pirate-fantasy novel, Davey Swag. The official website for Illmoor is located at www.illmoor.com
In addition to writing novels, David has performed at the Hay and Edinburgh Book Fesitvals. He has also worked in Bulgaria for the British Council, reading his works and talking about story-creation with teenagers in Sofia. The Illmoor Chronicles currently comprise six books, the sixth of which will be published in hardback on 19th January 2007[citation needed]. The Illmoor Chronicles are set in the fantasy land of Illmoor, and the stories are aimed at a young adult/crossover audience, with a broad humour content.
Illmoor 1: The Ratastrophe Catastrophe
The nice young man Duke Modeset hired to rid the city of its plague has run off with its children... Can Groan Teethgrit - a man mountain with more fingers than brain cells, Gordo Goldaxe - a dwarf who hates people looking down on him, and Tambor Forestall - an ex-sorcerer who has failed to master the most basic of spells, help the duke track them down?
Illmoor 2: The Yowler Fowl-Up
A terrible sect has arisen in Illmoor - they're dark, they're deadly, and they're even more hellbent on the destruction of the city than the citizens themselves. All that stands between total chaos and the return of the dark gods are Duke Modeset (who doesn't like the place anyway), Jareth Obegarde (a vampire on his mother's side) and Jimmy Quickstint (who is about to do the wrong favour for the wrong man). A thrilling story of darkness and destiny, where the brave step forward... and fall over.
Illmoor 3: The Shadewell Shenanigans
Groan Teethgrit and Gordo Goldaxe have looted one village too many, and now the Lords of Illmoor are baying for their blood. Can Duke Modeset, exiled Lord of Dullitch, devise a plan clever enough to topple the duo AND Groan's equally reckless half-brother? Of course he can't, he's next to useless himself... ... but he does have one secret weapon: an extremely beautiful princess who seems willing to do absolutely nothing for the good of her country.
Illmoor 4: The Dwelling Debacle
A dark enemy is about to make its presence felt in Dullitch...something even more twisted and evil than the citizens themselves. But for Enoch Dwellings, famed investigator, it's a golden opportunity to shine. Unfortunately, the vampire detective next door has the same idea, and he never bites off more than he can chew. There may be trouble ahead...
Illmoor 5: The Vanquish Vendetta
Lord Curfew has been returned to Dullitch, but things are not as they seem. The real Lord Curfew was brutally murdered and now an evil impostor sits on his throne. Ruthless and hungry for power, he will do anything to sustain his disguise ...and people have started to notice. But, this impostor is a pawn of a much darker force. One that's older than Illmoor itself ...Meanwhile, elsewhere in Illmoor ...King Groan Teethgritt, his brother Gape, and Gordo Goldeaxe discover an ancient and valuable hammer that leads them back to Dullitch. Little do they know they have just unearthed a crucial part of Dullitch's past. Can old heroes reunite to save the city once again
Illmoor 6: The Colstone Conflict
Vanquish has returned to Illmoor after an age in exile, and none can stand against him. To make matters worse, the continent's greatest hero has become a vessel for the dark god's spirit and a relentless army of possessed zombies has been formed out of the mindless people of Dullitch. With nothing but a pitiful band of crusaders fighting for freedom, the cities of Illmoor are falling one by one. Hope is fading fast ! And yet there is one - ancient and powerful enough to challenge the dark god. Can Illmoor unite to face its greatest enemy yet?
