David Karsten Daniels was born in Lubbock, Texas on August 20th, 1979. His younger years were spent in Montgomery, Alabama and Dallas, Texas where he pursued his artistic abilities relentlessly. After growing up religiously frustrated, David branched out into jazz, improvisation, and performance art. After obtaining his Bachelors degree from Southern Methodist University, where he studied in Paris, France as well as the states, David moved to Portland, Oregon for a year. He decided that Chapel Hill, North Carolina was a better place to pursue his music. The Bu_hanan Collective was formed by David and longtime friends and band mates, Dan Hart and Alex Lazara. Bu_hanan is a musical production company named after the street where David, Dan and Alex set up in Chapel Hill. In 2006, David was signed by Fat Cat Records of Brighton, England and released Sharp Teeth as a co-release between Fat Cat and Bu_hanan. In January 2008, he relocated to Seattle, WA to reunite with Kate, subject of 2004's Angles.

Go*Machine 2001-2004
Fool's Cap 1995-2001

Fool's Cap began at Lake Highlands High School with David (vocals, bass, music, lyrics), Ryan Fitzgerald (guitar, now of The Polyphonic Spree), Jay Henderson (drums), Aaron Bratcher (trombone) and went through various member iterations over the years due to university locations.

Immediately after graduating from SMU, David moved to Portland for one year but wasn't finding adequate musical success there. The recipe for success was Go*Machine. It included prior collaborators and a better location. The other members of Go*Machine were Alex Lazara (keyboards, beats), Dan Hart (violin, guitar) and Jeremy Portwood (drums). Chapel Hill, North Carolina was chosen for its support of local music, cost of living and ability to launch inexpensive mini-tours due to higher densities of cities.
