David Green (Derbyshire cricketer)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

David Green (born December 18, 1935) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman. He was born in Burton-on-Trent.

Green's first County Championship appearances for Derbyshire came during the 1953 season, though he had one of the lowest averages of the season for the team. He remained a force in the middle order the following year, and, following an impressive display against Kent, was selected to play in the Derbyshire leg of the Pakistani tour of 1954.

He appeared occasionally throughout the 1954 and 1955 season, however, despite a strong finish to 1956 he spent the following spring playing for Cambridge University, making impressive showings against County Cricket teams before resuming his role as a Derbyshire player later in the year. This pattern was to continue through to 1958, though he made no appearances for Derbyshire during 1959, deciding to stay with Cambridge University.

Green returned briefly in 1960, though, despite Derbyshire's strong showing in the County Championship, when the team finished in fifth position, he made no further appearances for the county.

Green also played for Derbyshire's Second XI in the Minor Counties Championship and the Second XI Championship.
