David G. Turner

David G. Turner is a Canadian astronomer and Professor in the Department of Astronomy & Physics at Saint Mary’s University. He obtained his B.Sc. from the University of Waterloo, and his Ph.D. from the University of Western Ontario. Thereafter, he held posts at Laurentian University and the University of Toronto. He settled at Saint Mary’s University where he later became the Department Chair (1989-1997). He is the former Editor of the Journal of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, and continues as Review Editor. His research interests include, and are not limited to: stellar evolution, Cepheid variables, and Open Clusters.

He has earned several prestigious awards which include: the President's Award for Excellence in Research (1997), the Service Award of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (2001), the Founding Member Special Award of the Sudbury Astronomy Club (2001), the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year award by Renison College (2004), and the Asteroid 27810 Daveturner (= 1993 OC2) is named in his honor by Carolyn S. Shoemaker and David H. Levy (2003).
