David Friedman (composer)

David A. Friedman (b. May 8) is a film and theatre composer and lyricist based in New York City. He was the conductor of scores for Disney's animated features that include Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and the songs from Mulan. He has also worked in theatre, on several Broadway musicals, the most well known being the original Broadway production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. He was music supervisor for the Broadway version of Beauty and the Beast as well as Song and Dance.
He composed an oratorio based on the children's book, King Island Christmas on a libretto by Deborah Bailey Brevoort. His revue, Listen to My Heart: The Songs of David Friedman opened and closed off-Broadway in 2003, but has since been performed in regional and amateur theatre, with and without Friedman in the cast. He is also working on a musical version of Aucassin and Nicolette titled Nicolette and Aucassin that was performed in an early version in 2000. In addition, he has written a series of art songs setting poetry by Edna St. Vincent Millay.
His film and television scores include Trick and the animated series Dragon Flyz and Sky Dancers.
He has contributed songs to the films Lambada, The Lizzie McGuire Movie, and Bambi II.
Under his own label, MIDDER Music, he has produced albums for the cabaret singer Nancy LaMott. Other artists whose recordings were produced by Friedman include Alix Korey, Laurie Beechman, and a Broadway star Byron Nease.
He often speaks at various New Thought churches.
