David Davies (born March 3, 1985 in Barry, Wales, United Kingdom) is a British long-distance swimmer.[5]
Davies competed in the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, England.Still a teenager, he took part in the European Junior Championships where he won gold in 2003. Specialising in the 1,500 metres freestyle, he competed in the 2004 Olympics in Athens, where he took the bronze medal in a time of 14:45.95 (a British and European record), the European Championships (LC) in 2004 where he failed to win a medal, and the World Championships (LC) in 2005 where he also took bronze.
Davies won the gold medal in the 1,500 metre freestyle and the bronze medal in the 400 metre freestyle for Wales at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
He took silver at the 2008 World Short Course Championship games held in Manchester, UK on 13 April 2008.
Davies has also been selected for the 2008 Beijing Olympics and will compete in the 1500m freestyle race [6].
David Davies has become an icon of swimming in the UK and Australia. He is sponsored by Speedo.
