David Cooper holds the Foundation Chair of Disaster Response and Preparedness in the Menzies Institute of Health Research, Charles Darwin University and the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre, Royal Darwin Hospital.
Prior to his current position Cooper was the Director of the NSW Health Counter Disaster Unit and was responsible for the development of the Australian Mass Casualty Burn Disaster Plan (AUSBURNPLAN).
Operationally Cooper has been involved in both Bali bombings, the Asian tsunami disaster and in May this year led the first AusAID medical team to Yogyakarta in southern Java, following the devastating earthquake.
