David C. Mabie

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

David C. Mabie, a Republican, is the Clerk of Court for Prince William County, Virginia, USA. In 2003, he ran against Senator Charles J. Colgan for the 29th district Virginia State Senate seat. Mabie, a former Democrat, had stated that he would not run against a friend, but when Colgan waited a long time to announce whether or not he would run again, Mabie felt he had to get into the race before it was too late. Colgan announced his candidacy shortly thereafter. From the outset, Mabie announced that if he did not win, he would not run for the seat the next time around. Mabie narrowly defeated Bob Fitzsimmons at the Republican convention, claiming that he could defeat Colgan without personally attacking him. Mabie publicized the fact that he was a former police officer and military man, promised to make significant progress toward widening Route 28 and making other road improvements, and claimed that electing a Republican would help the pro-life cause. However, he was unable to overcome Colgan's fundraising advantage, and lost the election, 45% to 55%.
