David Brown (February 15, 1947–2000) was the primary bass guitar player for the band Santana from 1966 until 1976. He played with Carlos Santana at Woodstock in 1969. He played with the guitarist on several other dates and albums. With his Santana royalty income being usurped by his family,[citation needed] Mr. Brown spent the last years of his life as a homeless vagrant and succumbed in 2000 to liver and kidney failure. David Brown also played in Billy Joel as guitarist.
