David Bell (born March 11, 1955 in Melbourne, Victoria) is a retired field hockey player from Australia, who won the silver medal at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Canada. He attended Aquinas College, Perth.[1]
Bell played 186 matches and scored 20 goals in an eleven year international career that included three Olympic Games, four World Cups and nine Champions Trophy tournaments.
In December 2004 the World Cup-winning captain was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame at a gala dinner in Melbourne. He led Australian men’s team to their only World Hockey Cup gold medal in 1986 in London, and three Champions Trophy titles in a row between 1983 and 1985.
Bell, who was the head coach of Australia's Women's National Team from 2000 to 2004, is the fourth Australian men’s player inducted into the Hall of Fame after Eric Pearce (1985), Ric Charlesworth (1987) and Julian Pearce (1999).
