The David Becker Tribune held a solid position in the late 80' early 90's Contemporary Jazz in what All Music Guide called a healthy place between some of the more "light weight" music of the time and the straight ahead world.[citation needed] Although they never really achieved "Jazz Star" status during this period, they managed to release several recordings that maintained a high standard of writing and playing while touring the US extensively.
Lead by Guitarist composer, David Becker, born in Ohio 1961, The DBT performed with some of the bigger names in jazz including Miles Davis, Yellowjackets, Spyro Gyra and Michael Brecker. Becker's first label was MCA which released 2 recordings including the jazz radio chart topper Siberian Express which was co-produced by Ken Caillat. The band moved onto Bluemoon Records in the early 90's releasing 2 more recordings which continued to define the band sound. Several tours followed.
In early 1992, Becker along with his drumming brother Bruce relocated to Europe where they continued to perform and record. Not much was heard from them in the US during this period.
In 2000, the DBT re-emerged with a DVD audio recording Germerica one the first of its kind. More was heard from the band with 2004's Where's Henning which managed to make it to the Jazz radio charts and re-connect Becker to many US fans. A solo venture Euroland and a duo with Jazz guitar great Joe Diorio "The Color of Sound" [Acoustic Music Records] followed in 2005.[citation needed] In 2007, the CD Leaving Argentina[citation needed] was released in Europe and is scheduled for a US release in 2008. The band has started to become more active by touring the US more regularly as well as South America and Europe.
