David Baxby is an Australian businessman. He is currently the chief executive officer of Virgin Management Asia Pacific in Shanghai,[1] a company owned by the Virgin Group. At 32 he is the youngest person on the BRW Expatriates under 45 list.[2]
[edit] History
Baxby was educated at John Paul College in Brisbane and at Bond University on the Gold Coast, graduating in 1991 with Bachelor Degrees in Law and Commerce.[1]
In 1995 he joined Goldman Sachs where he became an advisor to the Virgin Group, and in 2002 became co-head of Goldman Sachs Consumer and Industrials Group where he oversaw the public float of the budget airline Virgin Blue.[1]
In 2004 Baxby was appointed CEO of Virgin Management Asia Pacific. In March 2006, he stepped in as interim Chief Executive of Virgin Money when the then managing Director Rohan Gamble Stood down.[3]
Baxby has recently relocated to Shanghai to oversee Virgin's operations in China, with some commentators suggesting that Richard Branson now considers Baxby more highly than former Australia "golden boy", Virgin boss Brett Godfrey.[4]
