David Barrett (born December 22, 1977 in Waterloo, Iowa) is an American football player who currently plays cornerback for the New York Jets.
Barrett played college football for the Arkansas Razorbacks, where he finished with 176 tackles, 7 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles, and 5 sacks. Barrett was drafted in the 2000 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals.

Barrett played college football for the Arkansas Razorbacks. During his college career he had a total of 176 tackles, 7 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles and 5 sacks.[1] He majored in architecture.

Barrett was selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the fourth round (102nd overall) in the 2000 NFL Draft.
In 2001, he Recorded his first career interception in Week 4 against the Chicago Bears, and adding six tackles. He also made his first career start in place of injured Tom Knight in Week 2 vs. the Atlanta Falcons and collected nine tackles.
In 2002, he recorded second INT of season in a game against the St. Louis Rams when he intercepted a pass off Marc Bulger then lateraled to teammate Justin Lucas and delivered a key downfield block as Lucas raced to the endzone.
In 2003, he recorded a key play in which he forced a fumble on Shaun Alexander at the 1-yard line to stop a Seattle Seahawks scoring chance. In Week 13 against the Bears he had five tackles and stopped a fake-FG pass to Brian Urlacher.
In 2004, David Barrett signed with the New York Jets. Superlative in coverage, David Barrett and the defensive unit used to practice with an 11 on 7 mismatch. He recorded seven tackles, one Interception and three Passes Defended in the Jets’ third consecutive OT game in the AFC Divisional loss at against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He intercepted Ben Roethlisberger with two minutes left in fourth quarter to stop a comeback score at end of regulation. He started his 50th career game in Week 12 win against his former team and finished with five tackles, including one for a loss, one INT and one Forced Fumble.
In a 2005 exhibition game between the New York Jets and NFL Europe's Frankfurt Galaxy, David Barrett earned the title of Nietzsche's Superman (NFL Europe's equivalent of the Player of the Game award) for intercepting 3 passes, sacking the quarterback twice, returning a punt for a touchdown, and kicking a 54-yard field goal.
Barrett has played in 120 regular season games and has started in 75 of those. His career stats are 479 tackles, 17 career INTs for 137 return yards, 66 PD, 10 FF and three Fumbles Recovered. His postseason stats are 16 tackles, five PD and one INT in three postseason starts. [2]

- He majored in Architecture from the University of Arkansas.
- He appeared in ABC’s "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" in 2006, with teammate Adrian Jones, to help build a new home for the Llanes family.
- His Mother passed away when he was one year old and he was raised by older sisters Kim and Denna along with their grandparents in Osceola.
- He has one son David Jr. [3]
- He is noted collector of Furbies and made a sizable donation to the University of Arkansas to start their Furbonic study program.
- His wife Sheila works as a curator for the Jefferson Davis Museum of Waterloo.
