David Balfour, whose nickname is Davy, is the main character and narrator in the books Kidnapped and Catriona (which has an alternative title of David Balfour) written by Robert Louis Stevenson.
Upon the death of his father, David sets out to meet his uncle and claim his inheritance. David's uncle tries to cheat him out of his inheritance by having him kidnapped, to be sold as a slave in America. On the way, however, he gets shipwrecked, and befriends a Jacobite rebel, Alan Breck. When they both get falsely accused of murder, they flee into the Scottish Highlands, while Alan's Cousin, James Stewart, is falsely imprisoned for aiding in the murder. David is finally able to make his way back to his uncle's house and claim what is rightfully his. He then meets Catriona Drummond whom he falls in love with, but is kept from by his attempts to help James Stewart. After overcoming circumstances and misunderstandings brought on by their situation, the two finally run off and are married.
