David Bale

David Charles Howard Bale (September 2, 1941December 30, 2003) was an entrepreneur, best known as an animal rights activist. His son Christian Bale is an actor.

He was born in South Africa and grew up in England, Egypt and the Channel Islands. Bale was married three times - to Sandra Bale in South Africa and to Jenny Bale in England. In 1991, he divorced his wife, Jenny, and left one daughter, Sharon, to relocate to Los Angeles with his two younger children, Christian and Louise. There he soon became involved in animal rights and environmental issues. He served as a board member of The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund and supported the Ark Trust.

On September 3, 2000, he married the feminist writer Gloria Steinem in a private ceremony in Oklahoma. Bale himself was facing deportation after overstaying his visa. Bale died of brain lymphoma on December 30, 2003, at the age of 62.

He also served as a board member for World Education, Inc.[1]., an international non-profit organization known for its work in educational development, located in Boston, MA.
