David Backes (ice hockey)

David Backes (born May 1, 1984 in Minneapolis, Minnesota) is a professional ice hockey forward currently playing for the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League. Backes played college hockey at Minnesota State University, Mankato until being called up to play for St. Louis's minor league team the Peoria Rivermen in the 2005–06 season.

Backes was drafted by the St. Louis Blues in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft in the 2nd round, 62nd overall. He was called up for his first NHL game on December 19, 2006 against the Pittsburgh Penguins. In his first NHL shift he assisted on a goal by Doug Weight. In his next NHL game against the Los Angeles Kings on December 21, 2006 Backes recorded his first NHL goal at 10:47 in the first period.
