David B. Audretsch

David Bruce Audretsch (born November 15, 1954)) is an American economist. He is currently the director of the research unit Entrepreneurship, Growth and Public Policy Group at the Max Planck Institute of Economics, Jena in Germany. He also holds the Ameritech Chair of Economic Development at the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs and is director of the Institute for Development Strategies at Indiana University and a research fellow at the CEPR, London. He is co-founder and co-editor of the academic journal on entrepreneurship and small business called Small Business Economics.
David Audretsch got his B.A. at Drew University in 1976, his M.S. in Economics in 1979 and later his doctorate in 1980 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was at the Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung between 1984 and 1997. From 1989 till 1991 he served as Acting Director of the Institute.

According to a Columbia University study, Audretsch was the 99th most cited economist from 1990 to 2000.[1] His research focused on the links between entrepreneurship, government policy, innovation, economic development and global competitiveness. His academic research has been published in more than hundred articles in the academic journals and in over thirty books.

Jointly with Zoltan Acs, Audretsch was given the 2001 International Award for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Research by the Swedish Foundation for Small Business Research.[2] Audretsch received an Achievements in Arts Award at a Drew University reunion in 2006. [3]
