[edit] Career
Akinluyi played rugby while a pupil at St Olave's Grammar School and then at the University of Cambridge. He scored a try for Cambridge in the Varsity Match against Oxford in 2005.
David Akinluyi was controversially picked to play for Cambridge in the 2006 varsity match despite the fact that he was a full time professional. Although not unusual for ex-professionals to play in the varsity match it was the first time a current professional player had been picked[citation needed][1]. He was, however, removed from the team sheet the afternoon before the game. His younger brother Didi Akinluyi played for Cambridge in the U21 varsity game that year[2].
Due to a variety of injuries he left Northampton in 2007 without ever making his full debut[3] and will play his rugby at Old Olavians RFC from next season.
Since then he has joined Oliver Wyman, a management consultancy specialising in the financial sector.
[edit] Trivia
- David's older brother Sam captains the 1st XV at OORFC. Sam made appearances for Harlequins through the youth programme but his excess weight and weak ankles brought his pro career to a halt.
