David A. Wheeler (born 1965) is a computer scientist.
In a 2001 self-published work,[1] Wheeler claimed to establish the theoretical cost of development of the existing body of open source software by applying metrics for costing commercial software by source lines of code for the Debian Linux distribution. At the time he posted the work on his webpage, the software within the Debian system turned out to be, according to his calculations, worth more than a billion US Dollars.
