[edit] Biographical
David A. Senecal (born October 15, 1975) is an American digital artist, best known for intricate, digital compositions that interweave images drawn from the natural with detailed, meticulously crafted symbols of human engineering.
Senecal’s work often depicts images of technology and manipulations of the human form (the figure transformed into partially human, partially human-made creatures) composed into digital works which consider the relationship between cultural and biological evolution.
[edit] History
He began making artwork digitally, in 1995 when a college roommate suggested he go to the computer lab and try a program called Photoshop. Although he had never taken a class in Photoshop, he began spending eight hours at a time playing around with the program and developing a design method and style, which evolved through subsequent versions.
He graduated from Michigan State University in 1998, with a B.A. in Studio Arts and studied art for a brief time in Catalonia, Spain, a region that is home to several accomplished Spanish artists (Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí, Antoni Gaudí).
(2007) Senecal began working in the latest evolution of print-making called ‘Digigraph’ ( also known by the French term “La Digigraphie”) format "known for its high quality colour reproduction that allows photographic artists, painters and museums to create limited, certified editions of their original works of art, using Epson's most advanced print technology." 1
(2005) Uses digital picture frames to display original digital paintings. The idea is to preserve the digital environment in which the artwork was created so the viewer experiences the work as it was intended.
(2005) Was the first digital artist to be represented by A Muse Gallery (Grandview Heights, Ohio) in the fifteen year history of the gallery. ²
(2005) Is an active member of ‘Breed’, one of the oldest online artist communities.
(2004) Senior Membership in DeviantArt - In 2004 Senecal was granted senior membership status in DeviantArt listed under the name `Senecal. Note: A senior member (A member recognized by staff as a positive contributor to the DeviantArt community, awarded with (some) permanent subscriber privileges.)3
(2002–2003) Founding member of art group, “the614” (now extinct).
(1995) Began the use of Non-Traditional Formats/Venues.

[edit] Anecdotes and Trivia
Senecal often uses a custom typeface in his art called “Nuax”. The typeface was made by the artist and is directly based on an alternate alphabet he invented at 11 years of age.
Senecal also played keyboard in a punk rock band named the Smiling Villains, who achieved moderate regional fame in the Michigan/Ohio/Indiana tri-state area in the early 1990s. One of the more memorable shows was with headliner Warrant, a leather clad, hair band from the 1980s.
As a child, received a letter signed in red marker from Jim Davis (creator of Garfield) advising him that to be a successful artist, it “helps to have been dropped on your head as a child”.
In his spare time, paints pictures of young verile boys.
