David & Layla is a 2006 film written and directed by the Kurdish-American director Jay Jonroy, an independent director and producer based in New York. It is his first feature film and is inspired by the true story of the Kurdish-Jewish couple Alwand Jaff and her husband, David Ruby[1].

Inspired by a true love story of a couple living in Paris since 1990, the story is set in New York and is about the romantic relationship of Jewish TV producer David and Kurdish refugee Layla, a war survivor faced with deportation. Both their families are dead against the romance. Layla faces with a critical decision, She must choose between Muslim Dr. Ahmad and Jewish David. On the other hand David must choose between his wealthy Manhattan fiancée, played by Callie Thorne, and Layla.
