Davetta Sherwood (born January 27, 1984 in Mount Vernon, New York) is an American actress whose roles range from Patty in the horror film Venom, Jade Rhames in the series Platinum and as Lily Winters in the soap opera The Young and the Restless. She co-owns a PR company Liason Inc.[1] Davetta is currently in the process of writing, producing, and directing her own stage play called "Exactly different".[2]

Davetta Sherwood is the daughter of a Black British father David Sherwood and an African American mother Tracie Sherwood[3]. At a young age her parents divorced. At the age of 8, Davetta and her mother left New York for Maryland. Davetta began to show an interest in acting and her mother took notice. Tracie took on the role of 'momager'[3] and along with Davetta left Maryland for California at the age of 14. Davetta is close to her father David and has four paternal half siblings Kyle, Milan, Alexis and Yenni.[3] Davetta then began appearing in television commercials and music videos such as Vitamin C's video Friends Forever, Bow Wow's video 'My Baby' and Lil J's video 'It's the Weekend'.[4] Davetta enrolled in a program at Riverside Community College so she could finnish high school and start college simultaneously, although she hasn't finnished college she has hinted that she might go back.[3]

Davetta Sherwood began acting at the age of seven and appeared in several school productions throughout middle and high school including "A Raisin in the Sun," "The Wizard of Oz," "Annie" and "A Star Spangle Girl."[4] She later began taking acting lessons and landed television roles in My Wife and Kidsand The Bernie Mac Show. In 2003, she was cast in the short lived seriesPlatinum as the fiesty Jade Rhames, once the show was cancelled Davetta guest starred on Boston Public and would later return in 2005. In 2005, Sherwood featured in two films as Tosha Cooper in Back in the Day and as Patty in Venom. In 2006, Davetta was cast as the lovestruck teen Lily Winters in the soap opera The Young and the Restless, she was nominated for a NAACP Image Award for the role. Sherwood was later fired infavour of the originator of the role. Davetta starred in the independent film A Talent For Trouble as Jessica. In the same year Sherwood debuted on stage in the play The Divorce and later starred in the play Pleasant ville. As of 2008, Davetta is currently writing, directing and producing her own play "Exactly Different". [2]
