From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dave White (born June 7, 1964 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire) is an American writer, music critic, and film critic.

White is a prolific freelance writer; his reviews, interviews, and critical analysis of films, music, and pop culture has been featured in The Village Voice, Instinct, The Advocate, Glue, and Frontiers, among others. His writing stint as a music critic for Instinct began as a result of a letter to the editor about their existing coverage of music.

White was also film critic for the online website IFILM and currently writes a weekly column for the site Movies.com. He also has done work for MSNBC.com, including coverage of the 2006 Academy Awards.

White lives in West Hollywood, California, with his partner, writer and former The Advocate arts editor, Alonso Duralde.

When White and his partner moved from Texas to California in 1999, he sent a number of his friends an email to update them about what was happening. Many of White's friends forwarded the entertaining emails on to other people, and the emails grew into a blog.

In 2006, White's blog from that year was published as a book entitled Exile in Guyville: How a Punk Rock Redneck Faggot Texan Moved To West Hollywood and Refused To Be Shiny and Happy. White has since performed many readings across the Pacific Coast, including locations such as Sacramento, Long Beach, Hollywood, and San Francisco.
