Dave Raymond

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dave Raymond is a professional radio broadcaster for the Houston Astros Major League Baseball team. He graduated from Stanford University and worked eleven seasons in minor league baseball before being hired by Houston in the winter of 2005.

Raymond worked as a fill-in announcer for the San Francisco Giants in 2003 and the Baltimore Orioles in 2005. He was recommended for the jobs by Jon Miller.

Miller broadcasts for the Giants and ESPN Sunday Night Baseball and said Raymond "is a radio guy. He understands the medium. He understands how to paint a picture of the game, and that's his first priority."

Raymond's play-by-play partner for the 2006 and 2007 seasons was Brett Dolan.

[edit] Confusion with Brett Dolan

According to a story in the Houston Chronicle, some radio listeners have a difficult time determining who is speaking when Brett Dolan and Dave Raymond call a game. Each has a voice and style very similar to the other and critics claim it makes Astros games sound as if they have only one broadcaster, ala Vin Scully with the Los Angeles Dodgers. No fans have yet to confuse either Dolan or Raymond with the legendary Scully however. Many Astros fans have also mistakenly referred to the duo as "Dave Dolan & Brett Raymond", "Dave Brett & Raymond Dolan", and "Raymond Brett & Dolan Davies."
