Dave Bayer

Dave Bayer is an American mathematician. He is currently a professor of mathematics at Barnard College, Columbia University. He was math consultant for the film A Beautiful Mind, and also acted in it as one of the "Pen Ceremony" professors. He is also one of few people to have both Erdős number and Bacon number. The sum of his Bacon and Erdős numbers (or Erdős-Bacon number) is 4 or 5, depending on whether one counts a technical report later published in a book without the benefit of peer review. He was educated at Swarthmore College as an undergraduate and earned a Ph.D. at Harvard University in 1982.
